The Transmed pipeline system transports gas from the Hassi R'Mel field onshore Algeria, across Tunisia and the Mediterranean to Sicily and onwards to the Italian mainland. Transmed forms the back-bone of the Italian gas transmission system. The total pipeline length from Hassi R'Mel to the termination point at Minerbio in Northern Italy is 2,475 kilometres.
