Biomethane in the European gas market: a look at five key countries
Report summary
Europe is the leading producer of biomethane globally, with Germany maintaining the largest market share. Growth in production and use of biomethane will support EU targets to increase the share of renewables to 32% of energy consumption by 2030. For projects to be commercially attractive to investors there will need to be continued financial support from host governments around Europe. Currently there is a patchwork of support mechanisms in each country, which lack clarity and keep changing, depending on the country’s priorities and available finances at any particular time.
