Peak Nickel: stainless steel scrap and the future of primary nickel demand
Report summary
Even though stainless steel scrap will become ever more available in the future, our projection of scrap recycling rates is one of decline. This is counter intuitive to the expectations of a world trying to advance along a path to net zero where recycling should increase. Modelling such a scenario has important ramifications for the energy transition, as well as future nickel use, both globally and in China.
