Having first joined the company in 1983, he worked as a North West Europe upstream analyst for four years before moving to Sydney where he become an equity analyst covering the Australian oil, gas and mining sectors.

On returning to the UK in 1992, Simon was a No1 ranked oil analyst with NatWest Markets after which he took on the role of MD and Head of Pan European Utilities Research with Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Simon last re-joined Wood Mackenzie in 2010, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience across a breadth of commodities and sectors including oil and gas, utilities and mining. His career history makes him uniquely qualified to take on the joint role of Chief Analyst and Chairman, Energy which requires him to surface high value content and thematic research, converting it into thought-leadership communications.

He regularly travels to all parts of the globe, meeting with senior management of many of our key clients and helping to raise the business profile. Simon’s views on major industry issues are regularly sought by industry leaders as well as the international media.
