As Head of Climate Change, Caroline coordinates across the firm with the aim of maximising our positive impact on the climate crisis and the wider natural environment. She joined Baillie Gifford in January 2020, having spent the prior four years leading cross-sector energy transition research within Deutsche Bank’s equity research business. Prior to that she focused on the oil and gas sector, both as an independent consultant and as co-head of Deutsche Bank’s number one rated global and European oils team. Caroline graduated from Cambridge with an MA in Modern History in 1989.

Brian is a principal analyst on our global power and renewables team. He produces analysis across various power and renewables technologies and regions, and coordinates publications that focus on strategic competitive dynamics. Before his current role, Brian led Wood Mackenzie’s wind power analysis in Latin America and Southern Europe. He has managed publications across the value chain and has worked in both research and consulting. Brian joined MAKE Consulting, now part of Wood Mackenzie, in 2010 from the Trade Commission of Spain (ICEX), where he was a renewable power market and supply chain analyst.

Gavin joined Wood Mackenzie in 1997. His expertise spans across the Asia Pacific commodity sectors, and in particular, helping companies identify and build their international growth strategies. He has led a range of consultancy and research projects with domestic and international energy companies across the region, providing LNG project evaluation and provincial gas price forecasting. In 2017, Gavin took the role of Head of Asia Pacific research, and led a team of around 100 analysts. Most recently in 2019, Gavin was appointed Vice Chairman, Energy for the company's Asia Pacific business. He is based in Singapore and frequently travels the region to meet with clients.

Laura Mackay

Head of Upstream Research - Europe, Russia and Caspian

Laura Mackay is the Head of Upstream Research for Europe, Russia and Caspian at Wood Mackenzie. The Upstream Research team identifies key trends across the energy sector, provides strategic analysis and insights, delivers economic modelling of upstream assets and engages with clients across the value chain. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Laura worked at BP for 15 years in exploration leadership, finance, strategy and geoscience roles. Laura holds BA, MSci and PhD degrees in Natural Sciences (Geoscience) from the University of Cambridge, and a Master’s in Leadership & Strategy from London Business School.

Ed Crooks

Ed Crooks joined Wood Mackenzie in 2019 as Vice-Chair, Americas. Based in New York, he covers the full range of commodities, technologies and sectors, with a particular focus on climate policy, economics and the energy transition. He writes Wood Mackenzie's popular Energy Pulse newsletter, analysing the latest developments in the world of energy. Before Wood Mackenzie, he was an award-winning energy editor for the Financial Times, first in London and then in New York. He joined the FT in 1999 as economics editor. He previously worked as an economics correspondent for BBC News, a reporter for Investor’s Chronicle magazine, and an economic researcher at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. He also served on the UK government’s Sustainable Development Commission.

Prakash Sharma

Vice President, Scenarios and Technologies

Prakash has over 25 years of experience in energy, metals and mining, and climate change policy developments, ranging from change management to business strategy and commodity markets. He joined Wood Mackenzie in 2006 and is currently based in London. He is responsible for global net zero emissions scenario modelling, and leads discussions on hydrogen, ammonia, CCUS, next-gen nuclear and geothermal technologies for Woodmac. He has presented to the board and senior-level management teams, as well as at major industry conferences. ​ Previously, Prakash spent two years in Beijing as head of Wood Mackenzie’s China research, guiding a team of analysts on China’s energy and economic trends, including supply-side reforms, inter-fuel competition and commodity prices. He has also led global coal markets analysis for five years, delivering research on decarbonisation policies, the impact of renewables, alternative scenarios and evolving patterns of supply, demand and prices. ​ Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Prakash had extensive experience in the natural resources sector, including export-import of bulks and ferrous commodities for an established Canadian trading firm. He has also spent nine years in the mining industry, specialising in business improvement, international sourcing and ISO 9001 certification.​ Prakash is a Mining Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology with an MBA from the International Management Institute in India.

Peter Osbaldstone

Research Director, Europe Power & Renewables

Peter is a research director with more than a decade’s experience in European power and renewables markets. Peter joined Wood Mackenzie in 2007 as a senior power markets analyst, before moving into a role as product manager for our European Gas & Power Service. He took up the role of research director in 2015. Before joining the business, Peter was at National Grid in the UK, leading the production of long-term power generation and energy demand analysis. He has also held market forecasting, transmission network planning and commercial roles in the UK gas industry.

Nick Cooper

Nick Cooper became Chief Executive Officer of Storegga in 2019. His career has been in the international energy sector and in corporate finance. Prior to Storegga, Nick had been Chief Executive Officer of Ophir Energy plc and Chief Financial Officer of Salamander Energy plc. He began his career as a geophysicist with BG and Amoco before joining Booz-Allen & Hamilton. From 1999-2005 he was a member of the energy and power team at Goldman Sachs. Nick has a BSc and PhD in Geophysical Sciences and an MBA from INSEAD.

Melany Vargas

Vice President, Head of Hydrogen Consulting

Wood Mackenzie

Melany leads the Global Hydrogen Consulting Practice at Wood Mackenzie. She has supported a number of established energy companies and new developers as they grow their footprint in or enter low-carbon H2 markets, including developing market entry strategies, screening for regions and opportunities, developing analysis and reports for policy and regulatory advocacy, and performing commercial due diligence and capital raise efforts across the hydrogen value chain. She has also supported the development of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary hydrogen modelling capabilities across low-carbon hydrogen supply, demand and technoeconomic analysis. Melany has extensive experience solving strategic problems for clients across the energy value chain, including oilfield service companies, E&Ps, IOCs, gas and NGL infrastructure and logistics, chemicals, utilities and mining. Since 2015, she has focused her career on applying her deep expertise in fossil fuel value chains to solving Energy Transition issues, and supporting clients as they evaluate the technologies needed to achieve decarbonization targets. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Melany worked in Accenture’s Energy Strategy practice in Houston. In 2016, she was selected to serve as the project manager and lead author for the World Energy Council’s World Energy Scenarios 2060 (published in 2016), a process that involved engagement with senior executives and policy stakeholders across all regions and parts of the energy value chain and evaluated a broad spectrum of potentially disruptive technologies. She is also currently working on a hydrogen study for the DOE on behalf of the National Petroleum Council, leading the Task Group on Integrative Economics and partnering with MIT on the modelling efforts required for all chapters of the study. Melany holds a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a speciality in Energy Management and Policy. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Maryland.

Julian Kettle

Senior Vice President, Vice Chair Metals and Mining

Wood Mackenzie

Julian brings 30 years of experience in the analysis of metals and mining to his current role as Senior Vice President, Vice Chair Metals and Mining, where he is responsible for senior stakeholder engagement and relationships. He is a recognised authority on the aluminium industry across the value chain from bauxite mining through to end-use analysis. His in-depth understanding of the key factors influencing the industry and issues that stakeholders face is of critical importance in his work providing strategic advice to clients. Since joining Wood Mackenzie, he has carried out the role of Manager – Metal Market Services, Global Head of Metals Research, and Global Head of Metals and Mining Research. Julian travels extensively and regularly presents to senior industry and financial community stakeholders on our analysis across the value chain of the metals and mining space, covering aluminium, copper, lead, nickel, zinc, iron ore, steel and coal. He also supports consulting assignments and specialises in market environment assessment, expert witness, raw materials sourcing, contract pricing, portfolio optimisation and strategic advisory relating to brownfield and greenfield investments in the metals and mining space. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Julian worked in British Aerospace Commercial Aircraft Division, where he was a development engineer responsible for the development and evaluation of advanced materials and processes for aerospace applications.

Luca Vignati

Upstream Director

Luca Vignati is Eni’s Natural Resource Upstream Director as of Feb. 7th 2022. Natural Resources includes E&P, gas and LNG Midstream, CCUS, Natural Climate Solutions, Agro-feedstock and Sustainable Development activities. Born in Macerata (Italy) in 1963, married with two sons, he graduated with honors in Mining Engineering from the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna in 1998. He joined the Eni Group in 1990, beginning his career as a reservoir engineer at Agip SpA. Following several assignments in Italy (Ravenna and Ortona operational districts) and abroad (Congo, Nigeria, Libya, Norway), he covered many technical positions in reservoir management, petroleum engineering and production departments. Luca has matured a considerable experience in managing complex Joint Ventures, and in commercial negotiations in challanging environments. He contributed to various local content developments and in country value creation. He started his managerial position as Development General Director at SITEP JV, Tunisia, 1998. Until 2008, when he was back to Eni, he worked as General Manager in a medium size manufacturing company, Italy. In 2009 he was appointed Technical Director in Eni UK and in 2010 he became Managing Director of Burren Resources Petroleum Limited, Turkmenistan. Moved to Egypt in late 2011, serving Agiba as General Manager & Manager Director. In the period from 2012 to 2020 he was working in Kazakhstan, where he covered the position of Operations Director & Deputy General Director in Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (2012-2014), Managing Director & Resident Manager Agip Karachaganak (2015-2016), and EVP of Central Asia Region (2016-2020). He served NCOC (Kashagan JV) as Chairman of the Shareholder Committee from 2017 to 2019. From 2020 to 2021 he has been the Head of Commercial Negotiations for Eni, and the Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Region Upstream Business from 2021 to early 2022.

Simon Flowers

Chairman, Chief Analyst and author of The Edge

Wood Mackenzie

Simon has a long history with Wood Mackenzie. He first joined the company in 1983, as a North-West Europe upstream analyst, later moving to Sydney to become an equity analyst covering the Australian oil, gas and mining sectors. On returning to the UK in 1992, Simon was a No.1 ranked oil analyst with NatWest Markets, after which he took on the role of MD and Head of Pan European Utilities Research with Bank of America Merrill Lynch. There he worked with the boards of many utility companies and was involved in most of the major European privatisations, including Enel, EdF and GdF. Simon re-joined Wood Mackenzie in 2010, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience across a breadth of commodities and sectors, including oil and gas, utilities and mining. His experience makes him uniquely qualified to occupy the role of Chief Analyst and Chairman, which sees him produce high-value content and thematic research. Simon’s views on the issues shaping the energy world are regularly sought by industry leaders as well as international media.

Katja Wünschel

Katja Wünschel has been CEO for Onshore Wind and Solar Europe & Australia at RWE Renewables GmbH since February 2022. Previously, she was the responsible COO. Passionate about renewables, she looks back on a successful career and over two decades in international leading positions in the energy industry. Before taking on her current role, she held leadership positions at E.ON for different renewable business areas. She was responsible for global engineering from 2011 to 2016 and later on Director for Wind Onshore in Europe. Katja Wünschel did her Master in Business Administration at the University of Bayreuth.

Rebecca Sedler

Managing Director, Interconnectors

National Grid

Rebecca is passionate about people, decarbonisation, energy and infrastructure. Rebecca started her energy journey at E.ON working in energy trading, portfolio strategy and subsequently in international roles on strategic business transformation projects. Joining EDF in 2011, she went on to lead the B2B business, delivering notable growth in emerging market areas, such renewable PPAs and in 2020, stepping up as UK Director of Policy and Strategy, representing Retail, Nuclear and Renewables. In 2022, Rebecca joined the NGV Interconnectors business as Commercial, Customer and Regulation Director, responsible for strategy, policy, regulation and commercial optimisation of the interconnectors. In 2023, Rebecca became Managing Director of the end-to-end interconnectors business. Rebecca sits on the UK ESO Markets Council, is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a Founder of the Women’s Utility Network (WUN), which has over 4400 members. Having three young children, she spends her free time cooking, travelling and endlessly tidying up toys.

Alan Gelder

VP Refining, Chemicals & Oil Markets

Alan is VP Refining, Chemicals and Oil Markets, responsible for formulating our research outlook and integrated cross-sector perspectives on the global downstream sector. Alan joined the business as part of our Downstream Consulting Team in 2005 and later went on to lead the division. He has managed consulting assignments all over the world, focusing on major transactions (projects and M&A) and their alignment with key success factors for industry players and third parties. He then transitioned into research upon his return to London from Houston in 2011. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Alan spent 10 years as an industry consultant after working for ExxonMobil in a variety of project planning and technical process design roles.

Mhairidh Evans

Head of CCUS Research

Mhairidh leads our global research on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). Her team provide insight and strategic analysis on the CCUS landscape to project developers, technology providers, investors and governments. Her work includes cost assessments, economic modelling, market and policy tracking. Mhairidh previously spent seven years as a lead analyst in our upstream oil and gas division, focusing on the offshore supply chain and the North Sea region. Before joining Wood Mackenzie in 2014, she spent six years in commercial and project management roles in the subsea oil and gas sector. Mhairidh is an alumni of Scotland’s Future Industry Leaders Programme and enjoys engaging with the wider industry.

Keith Anderson

Keith is Chief Executive Officer for ScottishPower and he also sits on the ScottishPower Board, where he was appointed in February 2012. Keith has full responsibility for the Company’s activities in the UK including the £10bn investment plan to 2025 designed to strengthen the position of the Company as the Utility of the Future. Over the last twelve months, Keith has been a member of the No10 Business Council, the UK Government’s Investment Trade Advisory Group and was a COP26 Business Leader. He is also a member of the UK Investment Council. Prior to joining ScottishPower, Keith worked with some major financial institutions including The Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Life, as well as working as a management consultant with Ernst & Young.

Fraser McKay

Senior Vice President Energy

Fraser McKay is an experienced Wood Mackenzie analyst, and research team leader. His focus as Head of Upstream Research is maximising the impact and quality of our research on key global upstream themes. Previous roles have included corporate development projects and research leadership. He has managed research teams focused on delivering in-depth, strategic corporate and upstream analysis. This included building-out Wood Mackenzie’s Americas upstream and corporate research capacity. In his senior roles, Fraser managed and contributed to a number of major strategic consulting projects, interacted with client executive teams and government entities at the most senior level, and presented upstream and corporate material to global audiences. Fraser joined Wood Mackenzie in 2003, initially in an upstream analyst role, whereupon he led the company’s offerings in Canada and Alaska. Fraser has played a key role in the development of Wood Mackenzie's suite of Corporate and other products, including the M&A Service, Corporate Benchmarking Tool and Mid-Cap Corporate Coverage. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Fraser worked for Schlumberger from 1995 until 2003, in various field and managerial positions and locations in the oilfield services sector.

André is Managing Director within JPMorgan's Centre for Carbon Transition (CCT). CCT has a global mandate to provide clients in the Corporate & Investment Bank and Commercial Banking with centralized access to sustainability-focused financing, research and advisory solutions. The CCT will also engage clients on their long-term business strategies and related carbon disclosures. André was global head of Environmental and Social Risk Management at JPMorgan in London for 10 years, guiding the assessment of environmental and social issues associated with a broad range of banking transactions. André was previously Director at Sustainable Finance Ltd., focusing on the delivery of environmental and social risk management services to the financial sector. Prior to joining Sustainable Finance, André was head of Sustainable Business Advisory within ABN AMRO Bank's risk management division in Amsterdam, where he co-authored the Equator Principles and led the implementation efforts within ABN AMRO. André chaired the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Forum, a multi-stakeholder initiative of the International Hydropower Association, which proposed revisions to the industry's sustainability protocol. André holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Higher Diploma in Company Law, and an Advanced Diploma in Sustainability.

Adam Hain

Massimo Di Odoardo

Massimo brings extensive knowledge of the entire gas industry value chain to his current position as Vice President of Gas and LNG Research. Massimo joined Wood Mackenzie in 2007 as a consultant, where he advised NOCs, IOCs and European utilities on global gas and pricing dynamics. He later transitioned to the research division, where he soon became the content lead for European gas and then for global gas and LNG, responsible for articulating our view on market fundamentals, pricing dynamics and corporate developments. Before joining Wood Mackenzie, Massimo worked in the strategy department at Eni SpA, where he was responsible for developing global gas scenario analyses to support strategic investments. Massimo speaks regularly at conferences and with media, and remains deeply engaged with the industry. Travelling to see and discuss market dynamics with customers is at the heart of his job, enabling him to constantly challenge and evolve his own view of the global gas and LNG market.

Elena Belletti

Elena joined Wood Mackenzie in November 2021. She works with the Carbon team to improve and expand the Emissions Benchmarking Tool, provide clients with more intelligence in recent developments in the carbon landscape, and share Wood Mackenzie’s view on future developments and trends in carbon markets and mechanisms. Elena joined from the United Nations headquarters in New York, where she had worked since 2015, most recently as an economist in the office for financing sustainable development. She was the focal point on taxation and climate, advising senior government officials from low-income countries on the development of policies that generate revenues while protecting the environment. She focused on carbon pricing and on the role of taxation in attaining environmentally-related sustainable development goals (SDGs). Previously, she was a senior economist for Palantir Economic Solutions and a senior advisor at Eni; in both roles, she provided commercial, economic and strategic advisory to improve the value of economic opportunities in the oil and gas upstream.

Ashwin Punde

Ashwin joined SCB in 2018 and previously worked for BAML and Citigroup. Prior to joining Trafigura, he was the Chief Economist at BG Group (now Shell), a major integrated oil & gas company, and prior to that Deputy Chief Economist at Chevron Corporation. Before joining Chevron, Mr. Rahim was an international energy advisor with PFC Energy (now part of S&P Global). Mr. Rahim received BA degrees in Economics and Political Science from Stanford University, and attended the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) for advanced degree work in Economics and Global Energy.

Mark Hume

Mark Hume, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager is a member of the Thematics and Sectors team within BlackRock’s Fundamental Equity division. Mr. Hume co-manages the team’s Energy strategies (such as BGF World Energy and BlackRock Energy Opportunities) as well as the BlackRock Energy & Resources Income Trust. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2017, Mr. Hume spent ten years at Colonial First State Global Asset Management within their Natural Resources Team, initially as an analyst, and laterally as an energy portfolio manager. He had previously worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan and Wood Mackenzie as a senior equities’ analyst covering large-cap energy stocks. Progressive Energy brought to together the consortia of major industrials, anchored on the CO2 transport and storage infrastructure being delivered by Eni. Formed Vertex Hydrogen with Essar, developing the UK’s most advanced large scale CCUS-enabled low carbon hydrogen facility, which underpins the HyNet hydrogen system. Progressive is developing a pipeline of electrolytic hydrogen projects in the region. Chris sits on the Ministerial Hydrogen Advisory Council, and is a respected advisor on a number of expert groups and panels. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Oxford & Engineering Masters from the University of Cambridge.

In his most recent role there, he served as a senior director in IHS Markit’s Energy and Climate Scenarios capability, where he provided thought leadership on global climate policy, GHG emissions forecasting and energy transition strategy. Prior to that role, Steven was a research manager for IHS Markit’s flagship energy transition advisory service. Earlier in his career, he covered Asian oil, gas, coal and power markets and served as a carbon specialist in IHS CERA’s European Power and Gas research and consulting team.

Prior to bp, she worked for McKinsey, where she was a senior partner. Until October 2015 he was Vice President for Global LNG - and prior to that Head of LNG Strategy - at BG Group where he worked for over 20 years before joining Cheniere. During his career in LNG, he has been located in Singapore, Egypt, the USA and UK and has worked on numerous LNG projects including Atlantic LNG in Trinidad and Tobago, Egyptian LNG, and Dragon LNG in the UK. Dr. Walker has a Doctorate in Geology from Imperial College, University of London.

Before being named CEO, Mark served as co-president responsible for our Research, Consulting, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources and Finance departments while also overseeing the high-growth Energy Transition and Chemicals market segments. Prior to this, he held the role of chief financial officer for seven years, where he was responsible for managing profit and loss and all financial matters. In recent years, working in conjunction with the Controllership team, he has overseen all new business systems as well as the commercial and financial integration of acquisitions, focusing on consistently delivering organic growth and identifying further strategic merger and acquisition opportunities. Mark completed his Chartered Accountant training at PricewaterhouseCoopers, going on to become chief financial officer of a US$400 million travel operation headquartered in North America. After relocating to London in 2006, he spent eight years at RELX, working across a variety of financial, strategic and business operations roles in the UK, Americas and Asia Pacific. Mark’s experience has brought him close to all of Wood Mackenzie’s recent acquisitions and given him a proven track record of successfully delivering on complex international projects while meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders. His extensive leadership experience continues to inform and support the overall business strategy to achieve long-term sustainable growth.
