The PV inverter market continues to grow more concentrated as it matures. In H1 2016, the top ten solar inverter vendors accounted for 80% of global shipments, the highest mark since 2010 when solar demand was highly centered in continental Europe. Price pressure has additionally accelerated, particularly in the United States, where rapid proliferation of 1,500-volt systems and new market entrants have contributed to significant half-over-half declines.
Global PV inverter shipments will reach a record 63.5 GWac in 2016 before declining 5% in 2017. Demand will fall in the three largest solar markets - China, the United States and Japan - in 2017. Meanwhile, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia will be the fastest growing regions through 2021, with each region expecting annual growth rates above 25% over that time.
