Electric vehicle battery recycling – can it fill the supply gap?

Recycling will have an impact, but only in the long term

1 minute read

Electric vehicle (EV) sales are still very small, meaning recycling in five to ten years won’t necessarily disrupt supply. But recycling networks need developing now, as deficits in battery raw materials will make EV battery recycling a necessity. We only expect recycled material of significant quantities post 2030.

Battery recycling will hardly make a dent in the supply gap even by 2040

In part three, of our three-part series, you'll find out how will battery raw materials recycling will impact the EV revolution, covering:

  • How recycling reduces the carbon footprint of EVs
  • Key challenges that may hold back a wave of secondary battery raw materials

  • Uncertainty around future battery technologies and chemistries
