European feedstock transitions have been primarily driven by an attempt to increase ethylene cost competitiveness. Some specific cases for ethane have been driven to secure feedstock supply. These projects have also had a consequential impact on propylene supply in the region. On average, feedstocks in Europe have and continue to get lighter. This insight explores how this impacts propylene supply across the region and at key assets where feedstock transitions are occurring.  Due to this effect of declining production and robust demand, a widening supply gap for propylene is emerging in Europe. In addition to their ethylene asset modifications, INEOS and Borealis are both studying investments in propane dehydrogenation (PDH) projects. The insight also reviews the key drivers behind each project.
