Commodity Market Report
North America propylene short-term outlook August 2017
Report summary
US spot polymer grade propylene prices were on a steady upward march towards 40 c/lb in August even before Harvey, due to lightening steamcracker feedslates and strong propylene export demand. Harvey sent spot propylene prices past 40 c/lb due to Enterprise splitter concerns and supply curtailment from refiners and ethylene producers. 3Q17 will see the lowest quarterly level of propylene production since 2015, primarily due to refining cuts.
