ASEAN 50: Growth and opportunities in South East Asian coal markets
Report summary
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The 10-countries alliance has grown to the 6th largest economy globally with a combined GDP of US$2.8 trillion this year. Its robust economic outlook translates into strong energy demand. Power demand is expected to grow at 5% in the next decade. Opportunities for seaborne coal suppliers arise as the region's primary fuel mix evolves at a very different pace compared to the rest of the world. Renewables become a post-2025 story when solar and battery costs start to decline.
