Report summary

High temperatures in July boosted thermal coal demand and market prices. To ensure sufficient production, the National Development and Reform Commission announced it would allow an additional net capacity of 200Mt to enter the market. We expect the new capacity will gradually ease supply tightness and pressure thermal prices. On the metallurgical coal side, signs of a price uptick were evident. A new round of restocking and supply shortage resulted from output cut and weather disruption were the main reasons.
