Coal asset report - Vista - May 2021

Report summary

Vista is a bituminous thermal coal mine in the Foothills region of the Canadian Rockies sponsored by Coalspur, owned by Cline Group. The mine began construction in 2017 and produced its first train in May 2019. The operation is a truck and shovel mine. We estimate the mine produced 4.8 Mt in 2020. We expect the mine to ramp up to 4.3 Mt in 2021 after a delay in permits for tailing cells forced the mine to idle from February 2021 to May/June 2021. The mine is slated to operate at 11 Mt from 2022 to until 2028. All production from the mine will be sold in seaborne markets, primarily to South Korean and Japanese utilities.
