Report summary
Contura was created in 2016, as one of two companies that emerged from the bankruptcy of Alpha Natural Resources. Contura received most of the "core" assets and is one of the primary producers of high volatile metallurgical coal in the region. In 2018, Contura and Alpha merged back together under the Contura name to become the largest US metallurgical coal producer. At the same time, the company also listed on the NYSE. The company controls 15 operating mines and two probable projects in Appalachia.
