Report summary

Contura was created in July 2016 as one of two companies that emerged from the bankruptcy of Alpha Natural Resources. Contura received most of the "core" assets and is one of the primary producers of high volatile metallurgical coal in the region. The company controls five operating assets in Appalachia: one surface mine and four underground mines. Contura also controls two large surface mines in the Powder River Basin.
