Contura - Appalachia coal mines

Report summary

Contura was created in July 2016, as one of two companies that emerged from the bankruptcy of Alpha Natural Resources. Contura received most of the "core" assets and is one of the primary producers of high volatile metallurgical coal in the region. The company controls six operating assets and one probable project in Appalachia: two surface mines and five underground mines. In 2018, we expect production to be 10.8 Mst, of which about 65% will be thermal and 35% will be metallurgical coal.
