Illinois Basin coal markets long-term outlook H1 2015

Illinois Basin coal markets long-term outlook H1 2015

Report summary

Illinois Basin (ILB) coal has historically been limited by its high sulphur content that made compliance with SO2 regulations difficult for the electric generating units (EGUs) that burned it. Now stricter sulphur dioxide emissions limits have required all EGUs that wish to continue to burn bituminous coals to install some type of flue gas desulphurization (FGD or scrubber) equipment.
