Report summary

Murray Energy is the nation's largest independent coal producer and owns mines in Northern Appalachia (NAPP), Illinois Basin (ILB) and Unita Basin as well as Colombia. The company was the top producer of Northern Appalachia coal in 2017 -  producing nearly 40 Mst or 36% of the regions total. After buying a 50% interest in four Foresight Energy mines, the company has also become the third largest producer in the Illinois Basin. Murray Energy also owns a number of river, truck and rail terminals.
