Commodity Market Report
North America coal short-term outlook August 2022
Report summary
Natural gas and coal prices continue rising as labour shortages and infrastructure delays hinder coal production and shipments. The supply situation for both gas and coal coming into winter is becoming bleaker and will continue to support ascending prices in the near term. Stocks are expected to reach a record low at the end of August, falling to 72 Mst. Coal producers and buyers alike are trying to find common ground and secure long-term contracts, however price premiums in Europe could give producers the upper hand.
