Report summary

Higher prices in international markets for thermal and metallurgical coal continue to encourage strong demand from US suppliers providing some uplift to Appalachian spot coal prices. Higher sulphur Northern Appalachia (NAPP) and Illinois Basin (ILB) coals have also found a temporary niche backfilling into international markets for the slowdown in petroleum coke production due to the idling of Gulf Coast refineries after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.
