Asset Report
Paso Diablo coal mine
Report summary
Paso Diablo is a surface mine that uses typical truck-and-shovel mining methods to extract dipping coal seams. All mining concessions in Venezuela reverted back to the government's ownership on 1 January 2014 as the latter declined to renew areas in Zulia that had been held by private companies. Previously, Peabody had a 48.4% interest in Paso Diablo. The Paso Diablo mine has been facing persistent and significant production issues as a result of severe economic conditions in Venezuela.
