Soumber is a green field project located 20 kilometres east of SouthGobi's flagship mine Ovoot Tolgoi in southern Mongolia and 55 kilometres north east of Chinese border. The mine is expected to share some general infrastructure with Ovoot Tolgoi supplying its coal to Chinese customers. SouthGobi converted Soumber's Exploration Licence to a Mining Licence in July 2011. Currently the company is evaluating the funding options and is in process of finalising detailed feasibility. In February 2015 Turquoise Hill sold a 22% stake in SouthGobi to Novel Sunrise Investments (Novel). An equity issue thereafter made Novel the largest shareholder in SouthGobi.
