Soumber coal mine
Report summary
Soumber is a green field project located 20 kilometres east of SouthGobi's flagship mine, Ovoot Tolgoi, in southern Mongolia and 55 kilometres north-east of Chinese border. The mine is expected to share some general infrastructure with Ovoot Tolgoi, supplying its coal to Chinese customers. SouthGobi converted Soumber's Exploration Licence to a Mining Licence in July 2011. Currently, the company is evaluating the funding options and is in process of finalising detailed feasibility. In February 2015, Turquoise Hill sold a 22% stake in SouthGobi to Novel Sunrise Investments (Novel). An equity issue thereafter made Novel the largest shareholder in SouthGobi.
