With the prospects for US coal sales in 2016 to be worse than that of 2015, producer announcements of reduced operations were rapidly rolled out at the end of last year and beginning of this year. We have estimated that publicly announced cuts planned for 2016 have amounted to 23 Mst, 17 Mst of US thermal coal and 6 Mst metallurgical. We expect more production cutbacks and consolidation in the industry this year.
