Westmoreland coal mines

Report summary

In addition to the seven surface mines it operates in the US, Westmoreland Coal Company controls seven thermal coal producing surface mines in Canada.  Westmoreland runs three mine-mouth operations in both Saskatchewan and Alberta and these six mines sell primarily to power plants under long-term cost-protected contracts.  In addition, Westmoreland operates one thermal coal exporting mine in Alberta, Coal Valley, which primarily ships coal to customers in Japan and South Korea.
