Report summary

Relying on hydrocarbons for 92% of exports, Azerbaijan has come under increased pressure recently as a result of sustained low commodity prices. Despite this, the country remains on track to open the Southern Gas Corridor and deliver 16 bcm of gas to Europe and Turkey from 2019. Falling export revenue though means finance priorities are likely to be reviewed with impacts for the domestic market in the short-term. SOCAR’s flagship OGPC petrochemical project was ‘temporarily frozen’ and only necessary industrial developments are expected to go ahead.
