Report summary

Strong economic growth and a rapid rise in energy demand has led to energy shortages in Bangladesh since 2010. With little progress made to develop domestic resources and increase baseload power capacity, energy shortages are expected to continue until at least 2020. Although Bangladesh is nicely positioned to dominate low-cost manufacturing in Asia, inadequate market reforms to bring in investment in energy infrastructure will reduce its long-term GDP growth potential.
