Report summary

About two thirds of Canadian coal reserves are metallurgical with thermal coal accounting for the remaining coal reserves. Canada is the world's third largest supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal. Power generation accounts for the vast majority of the coal used in Canada but will decline due to environmental regulation. Net exports of coal are going to increase as eastern Canada imports less coal while the pull from Asia will encourage exports.
