Norway is a mature economy with high standards of living boasting one of the highest GDP per capita in the world at about US$89 400. Norway is not part of the European Union and has maintained the krone as its currency. However it is a member of the European Economic Area allowing it to participate in the European market. Given its small population of 5.3 million (2017) Norway s economy is structured around exports.
