Report summary

The power deficit in Pakistan hit a peak of 8,000 MW in the summer of 2013. With little generation capacity coming online before 2018, shortages will continue. Progress in attracting investments for coal and hydro capacity continues to be slow. There are some positive developments in 2013, however. The government paid of US$ 60 billion worth of dues to the IPPs and oil companies. Power subsidies were also removed for all sectors except small residential users.
