Having recovered 2.9 percentage points of the 3.5 per cent fall in output during the Great Recession, Serbia fell back into recession in 2012, contracting 0.5 per cent on an annual basis. Deterioration of the economy has resulted in public revenues falling short of expectations and a widening of the fiscal deficit (5% of GDP in 2011 to 6.7% in 2012).
