Domestically produced coal is crucial to meeting South Africa's energy demand needs as well as providing export revenue; South Africa is the world's fifth largest thermal coal exporter.South Africa has the world's highest share of coal in its generation mix accounting for 95% of power generation. CTL projects account for 22% of coal demand to meet around 11% of South Africa's oil demand
