Europe gas demand

Report summary

The EU strategy to diversify away from Russia is at a point of no return. Natural gas demand will be the biggest loser (-70 bcm by 2030), as the EU's focus on energy security aligns with longer term energy transition goals, delivering increased investments in energy efficiency, electrification, renewables, and low-carbon gases. Emissions reduction is supported by measures to reduce energy dependency in the long term. Although high gas prices have driven coal burn in power lifting emissions in the short term. The 55% emission reduction target by 2030 is within reach but still reliant on CCS and nature based solutions.
