Global gas markets long-term outlook - China - H2 2014

Report summary

The Chinese energy market under-performed our expectations through H2 2014. In particular, demand for hydrocarbons and for electricity witnessed lower than anticipated demand growth, primarily as economic output slowed but also due to a number of other cyclical events within the market. Thermal power in particular has been impacted by both GDP performance and record levels of hydro generation. These developments have had a significant impact on demand for both coal- and gas-fired generation.
