East Africa is on the cusp of becoming a major LNG supplier. Projects, in Mozambique particularly, are progressing towards final investment decision (FID) and we forecast the region contributing significantly to the global LNG market, exporting 63 bcm (45.6 mmtpa) by 2035.

Since 2009, the discovery of over 5,200 bcm of gas reserves has changed the outlook and prospects for the region considerably. With both Tanzania and Mozambique having limited domestic gas demand and few pipe export options, the global LNG market is the most likely destination for most of this gas.
