India's gas market finally on the rise?: India gas markets H2 2016 highlights

Report summary

India's gas demand rebounded strongly by 10% in 2016, in response to falling gas prices. LNG imports in particular, increased by almost 30% yoy as spot prices went below US$6/mmbtu for most parts of the year. The expansion at Dahej LNG terminal from 10 mmtpa to 15 mmtpa allowed Petronet, GAIL and Indian Oil to import more LNG to meet the demand from the power, fertiliser and city gas sectors. Torrent Power and Bharat Petroleum also started to import LNG directly from the international market in H2 2016.
