LNG short-term trade and price outlook (Q2 2016)

LNG short-term trade and price outlook (Q2 2016)

Report summary

The global LNG market remained finely balanced through winter 2015/16, with Asian spot prices declining in line with oil prices. The market is moving into a period of oversupply. Overall Asian demand will grow in 2016, but only back to the levels seen in 2014. India is a key driver of growth, with demand responding to low prices. As a result, Japan's LNG price is now linked to that received in India, which is in turn linked to European prices.

In Europe, gas demand will grow as a result of coal capacity closure and increased coal to gas switching. LNG imports are expected to grow in Northwest Europe next winter, as it absorbs the surplus supply coming online.

Included in the report are global LNG balances; forecast spot prices of Pacific LNG; European gas balances; and forecast gas spot prices in Northwest Europe and the USA. It is complemented by a global LNG supply-demand balance spread sheet with country granularity and our forecast for spot prices.
