Commodity Market Report
North America gas markets short-term outlook: Calm before the storm?
Report summary
After trading much above $4/mmbtu, the prompt Henry Hub gas contract has calmed a bit and is back under it. The March/April 2022 spread premium has also narrowed significantly. Are fears of a being short on supply this winter dissipating? This easing of market concern is occurring against the backdrop of stagnant US gas production, high LNG utilization, and overperforming gas power burns. Our market fundamentals and price outlook remain largely unchanged, but there are a lot of "what ifs" that make us wonder if a storm is coming.
