Vietnam has two major resource plays that it needs to develop in order to forestall its decline in gas production. These are ExxonMobil's Ca Voi Xanh field in Central Vietnam and Chevron's Block B&52 in South West Vietnam. Both resources are estimated to hold more than 8 tcf of gas supply. However, disagreements in pricing has postponed the development especially for Block B&52. Consequently, Vietnam has turned towards hydropower and coal as an alternative to meet power demand growth.
