Vietnam LNG long-term outlook H1 2020
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
A combination of growing electricity demand, declining domestic gas production and cheap LNG has brought Vietnam closer to joining the group of LNG importing countries. We expect Vietnam will start importing LNG by 2021. Construction of Vietnam's first LNG import terminal, from private company Hai Linh, was completed in June 2020. Thi Vai LNG, from PetroVietnam, started construction in October 2019. The terminal is likely to be the next to come into operation, after Hai Linh’s. Other two projects that have advanced are Son My and Bac Lieu. Vietnam currently has 13 proposals for new LNG importing terminals. Most of the projects include new gas-fired powerplants. We have added a comprehensive list of proposed LNG regas projects in this update, along with our latest view on demand, contract developments, market structure and policy.
