ExxonMobil LNG corporate summary

ExxonMobil LNG corporate summary

Report summary

ExxonMobil has the most profitable LNG asset portfolio of any of the companies in our coverage. Central to this is its position in Qatar, the most valuable country in its entire upstream portfolio, where it has an interest in 12 of the country's 14 LNG trains. In recent years, the company has also made LNG investments in Australia (Gorgon) and PNG.

Being so closely linked to Qatar impacts the company's wider LNG investment strategy.  A major focus for ExxonMobil is to ensure rollover of its legacy Qatari production sharing contracts and to deepen its relationship with Qatar Petroleum.  The company has sought to secure international growth opportunities for itself and its Qatari partner. ExxonMobil's applies its strict returns focussed criteria to LNG investment. It typically markets LNG on a project basis, with an emphasis on long term oil indexed deals. It does not trade LNG, and has not pursued the portfolio approach of rivals such as Shell and BP.
