Japan LNG long-term outlook 2013

Japan LNG long-term outlook 2013

Report summary

With little indigenous gas production, Japan is nearly entirely dependent on imports. Even before the 3.11 disaster, Japan was the world's largest LNG market. Following the disaster, Japan has compensated for the shut-down in nuclear power by importing record amounts of LNG. Longer-term nuclear will play a smaller role compared to historical levels. Proposals to further liberalise the power market are encouraging new Japanese players to enter the LNG market and to develop regas terminals.
