In April 2017, Qatar announced it was lifting the moratorium on new North Field developments, which had been in place since 2005. Initially a 2 bcfd project was proposed, but this was soon replaced with a 3-4 bcfd upstream development. This will allow Qatar to increase its LNG export capacity from 77 to 100 mmtpa, coming onstream between 2022 and 2024.
