Total LNG corporate summary

Report summary

Total is a major LNG portfolio player with extensive Qatari positions and current contracts to buy flexible supply from Norway, Nigeria and Yemen, which it has used to build long term market share in Asia. Supply growth into its portfolio is set to come from its projects in Russia, Australia and the US.

The company views its LNG portfolio as essentially long term in nature and as a facilitator for monetising its own molecules. It has not pursued the acquisition and sale of third party volumes to the same extent as competitors such as BP, although it does purchase part of its portfolio on the spot market However, Total has a smaller proportion of its portfolio contracted under long term agreements, and has announced fewer short or medium term deals than the majority of its competitors.
