French Guiana risk brief

Report summary

Above ground risks in French Guiana are mitigated by its status as an overseas department of France. Political volatility and currency risk are limited, but regulatory uncertainty has increased since 2012, particularly over environmental permits and fiscal terms. The deepwater Zaedyus oil field was discovered in 2011, potentially opening up a new oil play, but challenges include a lack of oil and gas infrastructure and the embryonic supply chain.
