Alumina Ltd was formed on 11 December 2002 following its demerger from WMC Ltd. The company's bauxite, alumina and aluminium assets are held through AWAC (Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals), in which it has a 40% stake (Alcoa holds the 60% balance). The company's equity upstream interests are extremely competitive, with only a small proportion located at the higher end of the cost curve.
