Report summaryVotorantim's Barra Mansa plant first began production in 1937. The plant has been modernised and expanded since then with the current EAFs constructed in 1981 and 1980. However, the lack of space to expand at this site prompted Votorantim to look to Resende in order to expand their steel production capability in Brazil. Barra Mansa produces mainly rebar, angles and profiles for use in the construction sector. Finished steel costs have fallen 26% compared to 2014 because of the weaker Brazilian currency and a fall in input costs.
