Report summary

Over the past decade, petroleum prices and company profits have soared. This escalation in prices and profits, along with challenging economic conditions, drove governments to a wave of new ‘resource nationalism’ policies – from outright nationalisation of companies in some extreme cases, to more typical increases in protectionism and/or government take from taxes/royalties, ownership restructuring, and contract revisions.
