Carajas - Serra Leste iron ore mine

Report summary

Serra Leste is a mine owned and operated by Vale in its Northern System. Final licenses to operate Serra Leste were received in early 2015 and the mine completed its ramp-up throughout 2016. Costs at Serra Leste are slightly higher than the older Serra Norte operation because of the additional trucking to get the product to the rail link. The mine's total cash cost places it very low on the global seaborne cost curve.
