Report summary

The Serra Norte mining complex is a large surface mining operation producing over 140 Mtpa of high-grade iron ore. It is one of the largest and lowest cost iron ore mines in the world due to its large, high-grade and low-strip orebody. The integrated Carajas operation — which includes Serra Norte, Serra Sul and Serra Leste — is 100% owned by Vale and known as the Northern System.
