Asset Report
Carina iron ore mine
Report summary
Carina was a small surface mine in Yilgarn region of Western Australia, owned by mining services contractor and miner, Mineral Resources. The mine is 60 kilometres north-east of the Koolyanobbing mine and approximately 370 kilometres north-east of Perth. With expansion to the J5 and Bungalbin East deposits rejected on environmental grounds, Carina ceased operations in late 2018. Carina was a relatively high cost mine because of its long raw haul and use of third party rail. CFR costs were further inflated by its use of the Kwinana port which is limited to Handymax vessels.
