Report summaryCentury was the largest open pit zinc mine in Australia for almost 16 years. Located in NW Queensland, the mine produced zinc and lead concentrates that were exported via a dedicated port at Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The mine was originally scheduled for closure in 2014, after completion of Stage 9 of the mine plan. Closure was however postponed until the fourth quarter of 2015 in order to mine the remaining 6.6Mt of ore, known as ‘Stage 10'. During 2015 the operation also processed trial stoping ore from MMG's Dugald River project, also in NW Queensland. Processing of Dugald River ore continued into early 2016.
